The Texas Boyz
|
The Texas Boyz began their singing career in 1967 with the ambition of becoming the world’s greatest gospel group ever. The group consisting of Cecil Washington, Glen Washington, Ken Washington, Quintin Washington, longtime friends Kecia Brooks and Odis Byrd, and Larry Brooks and Benny Finn, Jr, has endured a lot of changes since they started, but the group has managed to stayed the same and keep their traditional quartet sound. They put all their trust in the Lord, and with the guiding hand of their mother, Mother Reather McCowin, they have been able to stand the test of time. Truly, they can attest to the fact that “a family that prays together stays together.” Their devotion to the ministry and God has been tested by the secular world of offerings to sing R&B. They remembered what the word of God said, “what does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul?” They are rooted in their commitment to the ministry; being unmovable. They know that their purpose in life is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and to give God the glory and honor for He is worthy to be praised. In 2002 the group signed with the Blackberry Records family, owned by The Williams Brothers. In that same year they recorded their first project with the company “Forever Together”, which landed them 2 Stellar Award nominations in 2003. In June of 2004 their sophomore project was released, “Only The Strong Survive”, which was nominated in two (2) categories for the 2004 Stellar Awards. The State of Texas presented them with the Legend Award for their contributions to Gospel Music. The sky is the limit for this group as they take on new challenges and more obstacles. They know that “only what you do for Christ will last.” |
